I Absolutely Despise Emails Like This One

We all have that thing that’s like nails on a chalkboard when we hear it.

“Nails on a chalkboard” for me is when a sales rep sends me an email and then;

A few days later, forwards the sent email to me with the following;

“Is the below any interest to you?” then;

A few days later, forwards the same email with the following:

“I know you’re busy, I am writing you just to check if you had the time to read my email”

Now some genius is obviously teaching this approach because I get this quite often.

Let’s look at why this approach is sucks;

  1. There’s nothing creative about (basically) sending the same, repackaged piece of sh*t email.
  2. Forwarding an email (especially to someone you’ve never met) has this whole “Hey dumb ass, how about a response?” vibe. Nobody owes you anything.
  3. Why are they clinging to the same form of outreach? Why not pick up a phone, send me an invite on LinkedIn, send me a handwritten note via snail mail, try something creative, etc? I mean, the ONLY thing available to this rep was just email and worse yet, the SAME email three times?
  4. Because others are doing this, its become a really typical approach. You’ll never stand out when you go the “Me too” route.
  5. It encourages a premature “REMOVE” response instead of encouraging a “COURTSHIP”. It actually reminds me of this scene from Family Guy where Stewie keeps saying “Mom, Mom, Mom, Mummy, Mum, Ma” forever until Lois screams “WHAT????”

And please don’t get me wrong;

At least this rep is trying and obviously not sitting around waiting for the phone to ring.

Its just no way to stand out and encourage someone to want to be courted!
