My best cold calling tip is simple to learn and yet too easy to blow off;
Stop clinging so tightly to cold calls
That statement goes over like walking into a biker bar and complaining that there isn’t any Pet Shop Boys on the jukebox but here me out;
MOST sales reps cling exclusively to cold calls and therefore its the ONLY way they hunt.
They’re fooled because they get results that way but meanwhile;
They fail to connect with prospects who despised being cold called
You know, the ones who would respond BETTER to social networking, traditional networking, snail mail, email, drop ins, something creative, content and wait for it . . .
A WARM Referral
The sad reality is that by putting anything to do with cold calling in the title of this blog post, I will TRIPLE my blog traffic today.
Hearing that, might kid yourself into thinking . . .
“That’s because cold calls work”
But I think its more because people tend to cling to the things that are familiar.
Even if that results in only reaching a portion of their potential clients.
Right about now, all the hardcore sales types get their panties in a bunch and begin to defend the cold call.
You won’t get a fight from me. I actually agree but;
Understand that your cold call is lonely and in need of some companionship from additional forms of outreach
And please realize that you’re leaving money on the table, by continuing to live in a world, where cold calling is your ONLY choice!
