In the U.S., the average, one-way commute time is 26.1 minutes, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. If you commute to a full-time, 5-day-a-week job, round trip that adds up to 4.35 hours a week!
Thanks to Covid-19, that’s 4.35 extra hours per week.
Since most of us in sales are road warriors, we’ve also freed up all the time we were spending in airports, flights, and time away from home.
How much extra time has that given you now that you’re doing none of those things?
And now the big question . . .
How are you investing this extra time?
I heard something the other day that I found a tad disturbing;
Believe it or not, podcasts have dwindled in popularity during Covid-19 because people aren’t in the car, aren’t going to the gym, aren’t traveling and;
Those are the most popular times people are listening to podcasts.
If this is you, I hope you’ll rethink your feelings about this and use the extra time to your advantage.
“I know Kung Fu!”
Do you remember that scene in The Matrix where they were loading all these programs into Neo’s brain, including some badass martial arts skills?
That should be you right now with learning some badass skills to help you take your sales up a notch or three!
Aside from listening to podcasts, you could;
Listen to audio books.
Watch instructional YouTube videos, TedTalks, etc.
Read
Invest some time over on LinkedIn.
My son has been investing some of his time on the company’s product training portal. No downside to learning your solution at a deeper level.
How about calling successful reps in your company and picking their brain?
How about “sparring” phone objections with another rep?
How about creating a virtual “Toastmasters” with your peers practicing demos (and providing feedback)?
How about recording your next demo and taking the time to really evaluate your performance. Gold star if you ask your peers to review and provide feedback. “Game tape” is a good thing!
The “10 Things” Exercise
Here’s something that you have to promise NOT to dismiss because of it’s simplicity.
It’s called the “10 Things” Exercise and it’s something I do with my coaching clients to create MOMENTUM in their business.
Ready?
Identify 10 things you need to do. Note: Maybe it’s time to get to work on some of the things you’ve been meaning to do (Pre Covid-19) but never seem to have the time.
On the list include a few “fire starters”. Fire starters are tasks that can be done quickly and get you feeling that “I feel f*cking awesome because I just accomplished something” thing.
Put timelines on each of the 10 things. My suggestion is to make these short term task that you will accomplish in the next 30 days. Even better if you have a few items that will be accomplished in the next few days, to a week.
Get to work on the “10 things”.
Take note of how awesome you feel as you put a check mark next to each action item.
Rinse and repeat.
