
Everyone loves that quote from Mike Tyson;
Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth!
Actually, they love that quote until they realize that’
They were the one that got punched.
I bet you started the year with not only high hopes, but a plan to get you there, right?
Then a pandemic comes along and sucker punches you.
When this whole thing started, I took more than a punch, I got knocked to the canvas for a 9 count because I’m in sales training, and all my onsite events were cancelled.
Luckily, I was able to get back up, CHANGE my plan, and do a little punching of my own,
How about you?
Here are a few questions to ponder when you are either in challenging times, or in a situation where you just emerged.
- If you are emerging from a challenge, have the balls to analyze what you’d do differently should it happen again. Take the time to discuss this as a team at your company.
- Whenever you are knee deep in a challenge, use this fill in the blank problem solving question “In what ways can I _______________?” I love this question because it focuses on ACTION and not just analysis. Don’t forget to brainstorm this one with your team too.
- Whenever you are challenged by something, ask yourself “How can I leverage this instead of being challenged by it?” Just to be clear, when I say “leverage” I don’t mean running out and selling masks 700% above market value because there’s a shortage if people don’t like it, let them get sick. I’m talking about things like my friends in the printing industry did by pivoting to social distancing signage, decals, PPE, etc. Or how about how I moved from a partial onsite model to a 100% virtual training model. How about all the local restaurants who started offering curbside pick up and even delivery? How about the reps who feel that the summer is very challenging so they LEVERAGE it by changing up their messaging to “summer specific” messaging?
- Whenever you’re knee deep in a challenge, ask yourself “What qualities will I need to weather this storm?” Here’s a FREE checklist to help you with that thought process.
- “What immediate action items can I take to weather and even LEVERAGE this storm?”
